This is really good news as this new establishment is a category 'D' prison or open prison. Conditions for Eddie will therefore be far more favourable for him. We have to thank the hard work of Eddies solicitors who against all the odds successfully argued at a recent parole hearing that Eddie should be de-categorised from closed conditions to open conditions notwithstanding that Eddie was maintaining his innocence. Often, prisoners who claim innocence never get through a parole board as they are viewed as in denial of the offence and a continuing risk to the public. Such prisoners are often kept in closed conditions and have in the past served sentences way beyond their tariff sentence. Despite Eddie refusing to take part in any prison courses specifically designed to address his alleged offending behaviour, on the basis that he has done nothing wrong, his lawyers successfully argued that Eddies behaviour in prison has been exemplary from day one and that all psychological evaluations of Eddie by the authorities had concluded that he was not a risk and he should therefore be de-categorised. A great result and a step closer to his eventual release.
In the meantime, Eddies solicitors are working extremely hard on his case and are putting together evidence for submission to the Criminal Cases Review Commission, a requirement necessary for a new appeal
